Disability plays no favorites: It will strike men and women of all races, occupations, and income levels. In fact, statistics indicate that 30% of workers entering the workforce will become disabled before retiring, and physicians are no exception. A real and growing risk, disability can jeopardize financial security and threaten the future of a practice.

At MGIS, our business is protecting physician income. We design and administer specialized group disability programs for physicians and their employees. We offer one of the strongest and most competitive contracts available, and our group coverage can be layered on top of any individual disability plan with no offset or coordination of benefits. Some of our unique features include:

  • True “Own Specialty and Sub Specialty” definition of disability. Our contract provides superior protection for the general specialty or sub-specialty in which a physician is practicing, with all claims adjudicated by a specialized, dedicated claims unit. Plus, we do not penalize physicians who have an earnings lag.
  • Benefit Levels available up to 66 % to $20,000 a month. Guaranteed Issue is provided based on group size and income levels. Contributory plans are available for physicians, providing tax-advantaged benefits. Additional monthly maximum coverage levels are also available for high income earners to supplement the base program.
  • Dual Formula Zero Day Residual Disability Benefits. When calculating the first 12 months of return to work, we allow up to 100% from all sources. Following this, we use the “Best of Both Worlds” formula - the higher of a Proportionate Loss formula or 50% Offset formula, providing a more equitable earnings replacement ratio across an entire salary spectrum.
